On my 09 Ultra I notice when I am backing up the bike the front of the seat moves back and forth, not a lot but it does move side to side. I guess since I am pushing with my A$$ against the back of the seat (the drivers back) it seems to add some play in the front and the action of me walking the bike back makes it move side to side. Is this normal? or could the seat be loose? I haven't had it off but if it like most cycle seats I imagine it slides into some clip(s) in the front and bolts on the rear.
Pull your seat and check the metal plate thats riveted to the seat pan.
On my friend's 07 Ultra, the seat pan had a fracture where the metal tang was riveted. Caused the front of the seat to move sideways like you described on yours.
The seat pan is only plastic or fibreglass.
09 doesn't have a seat tab. the tab is on the frame with slot in seat. your seat sounds normal. some things if installed tightly will eventually crack.
My RG had the same issue and yes it rubbed the tank and frame paint. The Mustang replacement solved it for me. I led demo rides for the dealership over the weekend. Every touring model seemed to do it.
