Do some homework and CHECK THE CAR OUT. If it's real go for it. That car is only going to appreciate in value as opposed to your HD. My '06 Streetglide ($20K new)might bring $12K. Besides a bike's a bike and you can replace it easily. They ain't makin' any more '69 Mach I's and the Sportsroof models are few and far between.
"69 Mach I's never came with a 390 or holes in the quarter panel. And collector car insurance is cheap even with the driving restrictions and it's not like you'll put 100K mi. on the thing unless you're a fool.
I would trade my 08 EG for that car tomorrow if everything was as stated. BUT as the others have said, it doesn't make sense to me to trade a 30K+ car for a 20K bike. Something must be wrong.
If he wanted to trade even up I'd do it in a heartbeat even if the numbers don't match...but i'd guess the guy wants a significant amount of cash with your Harley for the car - ad's just not written very well...of course then I'd have to get another HD...so I'd still be out of money!
I would trade in a heartbeat. As said, 40/20 is a no brainer. Of course I would have to look at it in person before I did but this is just a silly question. If it looks too good, it's probably not true.
I can tell you why someone might do something like this, because I have considered doing it. I have a 70 mach 1. Had it appraised about 18 months ago for $45,000.
The car is worth that... when the market comes back! it is not worth that now. I ride much more than I drive the car and have considered trading it for a bike. I am looking for a panhead in the same restored condition and some cash.
so if the guy is tired of the car, knows it wont bring what it could have a year ago, and possibly will again in a year from now, and does not have a bike and wants one, he may very well be looking to trade for a 30k bike, would not surprise me.
