Default painted inner fairing install cost?

I have a vivid black 09 street glide and was wondering how many hours they would charge me to install and painted inner fairing? Is it worth the money since my bike is already black? I figured the painted inners would be a pain to keep clean and another thing to wax. Will a 07 or 08 inner fairing fit my 09?

Thanks

You will get a lot of different opinions here... I have an 04 FLHTCI and have had the inner painted now for about 5 years... During that time I even changed my front end to a Road Glide and had that inner painted... Just last month I went back to the EG front end and put the painted inner back... I am not as 'big' on the painted as a lot of people... I am NOT new to the painted - its been there since about 04 - late...

It does look COOL (when clean) - it does show all the dust much more and it does need some waxing - not much???

I ride a lot and it is a pain at times - but looks cool ??? lol --- are you getting the picture??

I would say IF you want to do this... go to someplace like www.chicagoharley.com and buy a new one - either painted or unpainted (if you have a local painter that will do you a favor) and install it your self... Why buy a new one to do this swap... well, for me - if I pull the old one off, send it out to get painted (days, weeks??) by the time I get it back,, I will have forgotten what goes where???? lol

either way,, BUY a service manual and parts book... you will use them a LOT over the life of your bike...

again,,,, they look very Cool but attract dust... its up to you..

My dealer quoted me 4 hours labor to install. I can't decide if I really want one or not. I'm not sure if the white/gold pearl might not be a little too much white.

Took me 4 hrs. All it cost was my time. According to my Wife, that's not worth much. So i got a deal.

I have the painted inner, mines the white. Hardly ever see another bike with one when I'm out and about. Believe the dealer charged 2 hours when the bike was originally purchased. Dealer subsequently had to buy me two more and install them again free of charge after mechanic, and I'm being kind, scratch the inners twice when adding/fixing other stuff. My recommendation, do it yourself.

with yours being White - I have to say, that has been the best looking I have seen and since the stock is the matt black - I would do it in a heart beat.... take the $$ and buy the service manual "So easy a Cave Man could do it"

Buy a takeoff from someone or ebay and have it painted yourself, then sell your takeoff for what you paid for the other one. Should be between $75 and $100 for the takeoff. Then get it painted yourself another $100 - $150. With the service manual changing it yourself is not that big of a deal, plan on 4-6 hours depending on how fast you work. Many will say an extra set of hands makes it go faster.

You will need an 08 and up fairing since you have the TBW. 07 and before have a hole in the right side for the throttle cables.

Pretty easy to do and worth it.

I actually put an 08 on my 07 and had the throttle hole cut. This way I have the new 4 hole mounting pattern to add the new style adjustable air deflectors.

It was due to this forum, I did it myself. I would have bought the HD one and paid to have it installed. This place is great on helping you spend and save your money.

Yours should actually take less time since you don't have the throttle cables to deal with. Those are a pain to put back on.

All said and done, I have $125.- plus my day of labor.

Love the look

One caution on Ebay - make sure of Shipping total BEFORE you buy/bid... I just sold a painter inner for the Road Glide... UPS shipping was a total rip off, because of the size of the box.. because of the measurments - box got priced at the 89# rate - I had a buyer in PA - shipped from CA was $81.00 - USPS wasn't any better... of course, I am a private party - if you or the buyer has access to someone who has a big UPS account... they can ship much cheaper..

above post is correct, you can get a deal on Ebay - just take care to read about the item and be sure to check the feed back and remember - Buyer Beware - always...

Once again, get the service manual and do it yourself. You know it is done right, you save a TON of money and you actually learn something. There are a few things you might need the stealer to do only because they have the high dollar tools, but for the most part anything you might want to do to your scoot only requires basic tools and a few cold beers.
