I have the service manual but they don't get into specifics on swapping the covers. I have a black powder coated one that I need to install. I was told by some people its easy and others that it isn't.
From the blow up picture in the manual I see there is an assembly that looks to be connected to the cover itself. Can anyone offer some input?
I was going to put the bike on a 2x4 to tilt it further on the jiffy stand to keep fluid loss to a minimum.
the clutch release ball/ramp assembly is held in the cover with a circlip, as well as the cable. its an easy job though, just make sure you get the ***** back in right.
On a scale of 1 - 10 it is a 3 at most. You do need a good set of C-Clip pliers, and make sure you buy a new gasket before you start. Depending on what bike you have you may need to drop your exhaust ( looks like you will ). So along with the cover gasket I highly recommend new exhaust donuts as well, but then I always change mine when I pull the header pipes.
The actual cover took me about 10 minutes to change my clutch cable which of course involves removing the cover and the ramp mechanism.

it's only a few bucks, cheap insurance, and yes the exhaust has to be partially removed in order to get the 2 screws, and remember the 2 short ones go on top
