I've put on about 10,000 miles since I bought my 2002 FLHRCI (Road King Classic), and it's high time for some new tires. I need a bit of assistance in interpreting tire sizes, since there seems to be two different systems of measurement in use.
Here's what it says on the sidewall of my current worn-out tires...
Front: Avon Elan II 130/90B16 73H
Rear: Avon Elan II 140/90B16 77H
I'd like to buy Avon Venom tires, and have sourced out the following prospective sizes...
Front: Avon Venom MT90B16 74H
Rear: Avon Venom 140/90B16 77H
My confusion is regarding that new front tire size (MT90B16). Can I be reasonably assured that this tire will be the same size as my current one (130/90B)? In other words, in tire-lingo, does the "MT" mean the same thing as "130"?
Before I place my order, I'd appreciate if anyone could confirm that my new tire choices are the correct size which will match the size of my current tires. Thanks in advance!
Are you purchasing them on your own and installing them yourself or going to a dealer? If your going to a dealer they should be able to spec out the right tire size for you or you can even call them and ask. Otherwise I'm sure someone will be along shortly that can answer that question difinitivley. Sorry I could be of more help.
I have the following on my SG. Avon Venom AM41 Front MT90HB16 Blackwall - 16" Front.
AM42 Rear 150/80HB16 Blackwall - 16" Rear

Yes, you are correct. The alpha rating of "MT" is equivalent to the metric 130 designation.
@ Streeter - Cool. That's what I thought, but thanks for confirming it.
@ Trubrit - Thanks for that link. I checked it out, and it does say that the MT90B16 will fit my bike, so I believe I'm good to go. (Actually since I'm using a 130 tire, I knew that if "MT" really was the same thing as "130" then it would be fine.) By the way, what do you think of the Venom tires on your bike? Do you like 'em?
@ Road Ranger - I'm going to be pulling my wheels off, and bringing them to an independent for mounting the tires.
