Had it on my 04, paid for itself a few times over. Would have used it again for cam tensioners but traded the 04 in on a new 09 with abs. The module for abs is over $1500, not serviceable from what I am told. Ya must replace it if something goes wrong. Seems like another bit of insurance. It is what it is, insurance, just like car, home, or cycle insurance. Ya may not need it but its there if ya do!
Only plan on having it for another year maybe two before I upgrade to an ultra.
I dont think it would be worth it if your not going to keep the bike.

I bought the ex. warranty for mine in '06.
I have only used once for a shift shaft and seal.Now the seal is leaking again and will use the warranty to get it fixed.I'm only using the money I already spent!
i was in the back of the harley shop visiting with the guys last week, and asked the very question you're pondering. they all agreed if you get the extended warranty, then harley will try to figure out a way to not honor it, as they would with the regular two year factory one from when you bought your bike. cost vs benefit for harley. most repairs will cost less for them, than the money you spend on the warranty. it's to their benefit, and harley has done tons of study on the issue.
The ESP is underwritten by CNA, not MOCO. The point here is that "Harley" (the MOCO, not the dealer) doesn't have anything to do with a claim under the ESP. The dealer contacts the underwriter to get authorization to make a repair under the ESP, unlike the MOCO warranty
which obviously requires approval from MOCO.
The dealer calls the underwriter for approval to make a repair under the ESP. The underwriter uses independent auditors if it wants to double check whether the repair is covered--ususally the underwriter doesn't send an auditor to check.
I guess the bottom line is that if you used the ESP and it saved you money then it is worth it....if you purchase it and you didn't use it then you would think that it wasn't worth it.....I guess if you have it...it is a piece of mind....
Didn't purchase it for my new scoot. What most people don't know is you can buy it anytime before the regular factory warranty runs out. What I plan to do is make a judgment call just before my factory warranty runs out. If my bike has developed some issues that look like they will cost a lot I plan to buy it. Generally speaking I don't believe in them.

That's not true. If you keep records you will be fine. If you have motor work done they can void it but if it's done at the dealer your fine. Also they could void the warranty for changing your own oil if they wanted to unless you can prove when you did it. I keep every reciept down to oil, gaskets etc...
I installed a PCV through a bike shop (not the dealer). I went to HD and bought a Screaming Eagle air filter kit and installed it myself. I noticed there was a paper in the box that said if you install this product it "could" void your warranty. I asked the salesman if they were serious. He told me is was a performance part, and yes they could. I told him they had "new" bikes on the floor with "Screaming Eagle" hop up kits installed, and bikes with "Stage 1" stuff installed that they were selling new with factory warranty. I have not been in my motor with big bore kits or cams etc. If they Deny my warranty they will be explaining their action to a judge, I guarantee you. When I told the sales manager this he told me I didn't have to worry about anything. I think if you have had internal motor work done by a non dealer shop your asking for trouble though.
I agree. This was the one and only purchase I opted for the ESP since it was a used bike and although it was apparently well cared for and serviced regularly while in use by the PD, and was a low miles bike, I just could not know for certain exactly how hard it's service life was. In hindsight, in this case, getting the ESP was a good move and saved me HUGE $$.
You choose wisely. Police bikes are ridden HARD and put away wet, so good move. Yes they're maintained well, but I've seen how those guys ride and they work that bike hard - frequent hard acceleration to chase down speed violators, etc.
As for me... I got the 7 yr extended warranty cuz I routinely log 30,000 miles per year. At that rate the bike will have well over 200,000 miles on it by the end of the 7 yrs. I figure by then I'll at least need a top-end so it will definitely pay for itself in my case/situation. And with the wheel/tire coverage I'll probably have something come up in that regard also. It's a no-brainer for me.

I bought the 7 year plan with my 05 EG and traded to a new bike in 09.They had my bike on the floor for 4 weeks and it sold with coverage better than a new bike.Ole bike had 30000 miles. Coverage was transfered.I recieved 600 more in trade in value. Got the 7 year plan on the new bike to.They pretty much, kiss my ***.I can do pretty much what ever i want to the bike and motor but they wont let me do cams.Fine by me.
Havent had to use The ESP for anything serious yet.Either bike.

Extended warranties of any kind for any product are a waste of money, if you have a money broker just ask him/her what they think of extended warranties.
The car companies dreamed these up at least 30 years ago to pry more money out of your pocket because they know that the chances are 99% that the repairs you will need will be far less than the policy costs.
