If you like to try different shields with out paying a lot... check out fastaire out of Reno... great shield and cost under $30... buy several, there cheap.. and look nice
Fastaire makes a kick *** product!! I've had the same 8" Dark Smoked shield on 2 different bikes. You can't beat them. And for the price you can own 4-5 of these for the price of one H-D shield.
I just take a torx driver and tighten them up with my fore finger and thumb. Never had any problem with mine coming loose. I've tried torquing them to spec and it just seems to me to be too tight.
So it looks like the official torque setting is 'snug'. I agree. I also check the snugness after the first ride. It seems the plastic parts settle in just a little.
Thanks for all the information. I torqued them to just under 30 inch pounds and the snugness factor seemed just about right. (And I know I had them "snugger" than that when I did it without the torque wrench, which was the reason I was concerned about it and asked for your opinions.) Good info!

Thanks for the link. I just ordered two shields (8" and 9") both dark grey. Outstanding prices.
I guess I should go ahead and get an inch-pound wrench set. I'm pretty sure my idea of "snug" is a little on the heavy side. I don't want to pop those brass studs free.
