Wondering if I could get some opinions.I have an 08 Rk that has 15322km or 9520 miles on it.Ther seems to have always been abit of oil use with it since it was new.I use syn3.I have been checking the oil level lately and it is down abit again.Since tha last oil change the level on the dipstick has gone down to almost above the start of the 3rd box. This would be the 3rd box going down from the full mark.I can't remeber exactly but I think my dealer only fills to the start of the last box so they don't overfill. The dealer says it's normal for these engines to burn some oil.Is that typical responce.Since the last oil change I have gone 4085km or 2538 miles.Bike seems to run fine otherwise.Only change on engine is HD oil cooler put on before delivery.Would appreciate any opinions .Thx very much.
From my reading here, some use oil, some don't. Mine hasn't used any in 14000 miles. I wouldn't worry about slight consumption - 1/2 qt or so over the 5000 mile service interval. Just my opinion though.
These bikes typically eat oil through the valve seals. And they can do it brand new. 05 was a particuarly bad year. Have not heard too much about the following years...
Pull the plugs and see if there is oil residue build up. If not, it's either too slight a leak and burning it off cleanly or you are loosing the oil elsewhere. Elsewhere would be easy to find I think.
I was always told that if a harley isn't burning oil, than its not running right. haha.... i happen to have an '05 RK that burns a very minimal amount of oil. I have heard about '05 being a bad year. Im very curious why? Whats wrong with '05 bikes? I just want to know what to look out for.
You would know if you had bad seals, the bike would be pinging from hot spots on top of the pistons,a little oil use is normal, maybe a little lugging of motor involved,no worries, just keep it as close to 3000 rpm when riding around
