Default exhaust fumes

When riding my 09 EG Standard I get a lot of exhaust fumes. Around town at low speed it’s not a problem but at highway speed it’s enough to give me a headache. No leaks detected at any of the exhaust pipe connections. I’ve noticed when on the highway I get a little wind hitting me from behind and am thinking this is drawing exhaust gas up to the rider area. What can I do to correct this?

I want to crack a joke and say get rid of the fairing...but that is obviously not an option. Possibly your windshield height has something to do with it. Maybe if you got one of those windshields with vents in it that would change. That is the best I can do on this one.

This might just turn out to be a great thread!
My thought is that perhaps you should dump that polluting Standard and get a Triumph Speed Triple. No fume
problems at all as the machine is able to stay well ahead of what's coming out the REAR.

have you checked with the dealer? there might be a bad gasket at the exhaust where it meets the heads. or a crack perhaps. that's a new on on me, exhaust fumes in the riders area. i'd be takin it in, it's under warranty. if youve not found a leak, they may be able to find it. and there might be a history of the new exhaust having issues. just a thought.

Tell your passenger to turn around, sit down, and lay off the chilli.

My 05 does the same thing. The windshield and fairing create a low pressure system behind the fairing, this creates buffeting around the rider and the sucking up of air from the rear of the bike. Adding fairing wings and the between the forks baffle will help but not eliminate the problem. Good Luck
