When riding my 09 EG Standard I get a lot of exhaust fumes. Around town at low speed it’s not a problem but at highway speed it’s enough to give me a headache. No leaks detected at any of the exhaust pipe connections. I’ve noticed when on the highway I get a little wind hitting me from behind and am thinking this is drawing exhaust gas up to the rider area. What can I do to correct this?
Tom from http://harleygoodies.com/ here. Are you sure the fumes are from your vehicle? If they are, I would say get some different pipes and a tuner, along with a new air filter setup. I have not experienced this problem myself.
Common effect . You get a swirl of air circulating from off your back and draws it forward .. Put a flag low and center on the back of the bike and see which way it files .. It will fly forward ..
I notice this when coming off the interstate on decel. I guess it's not just off the interstate, but more noticeable here, probably do to greater speed (draft effect) and harder decel. Not a problem, just noticeable. My wife's never complained, and it's just for a moment.
Mine does the same thing (05 EG standard) and it's more noticeable on decel. Mine has the batwind fairing addons and the fork fairings(chrome looking things). I've only had the bike a week and it came with them on. I also have a 12" windscreen. I'm going to try to take the addon fairings off and see if that helps. Also I read something about a vent that could be defective on the left side behind a cover? Anybody heard of this? Also, the previous owner had just recently installed a Harley Dynojet kit in the carb, I was doing some checking in the garage and there is no gas fume smell on the left side, but when the bike is running, even idling it's really noticeable at the carb. My softail was a carb too and I put a thunderslide and a powertube in it and I never had the fume smell. I don't have any wet leaks I can see, I'm beginning to wonder if the kit was bad or he did something wrong. The bike runs fine though.
