No-Touch glass and surface cleaner is the best all around cleaner and bug remover I have found. It works awesome on the whole bike along with a nice cotton cloth.

All these home brews seem like they may work but why not just but some bug & tar remover spray. There are plenty on the market that work great, fast, wont strip wax. I use one that has also has a wax additive in it.

Lemon Pledge for the shine and ease of removal. Hydrogen Peroxide, straight, doesn't damage the finish. Fresh bugs foam right off. For older dried ones, let soak a few minutes and then use a micro fiber to wipe them off. Keeps mine bright and clean.

++1 to the idea of laying a wet towel to start but I don't know about pledge. I would probably use HD Glaze first.
