Yep, got a "bongggg" here too, and getting those pieces lined up again while trying to insert the bolt and holding the cage nuts in place was almost impossible for one person. What's more, the cage nuts that were supposed to stay put but didn't, falling in the fender/frame brace several times and only retrievable with a magnet. The instructions were almost comical: "Remove bolt, insert cage nut, and tighten bolt. Yeah, that's like building the shuttle with instructions like "Assemble parts, fly shuttle." It was unbelievable and at one point in time I thought the job might never get completed.

New-bike owners don't know what they're missing, as for '09's it's apparently a 30-min. job like my old Evo RK was.

They were a pain to install but after they're done they work well and look way better than the two alternatives.

For what its worth, to anyone reading,

The 09 version is a lot easier to install. I've had/done both, and yea, prior to 09, they are a huge pain in the butt.

My bad, I put this on another thread, but this one is more recent and it is really where my question belongs:

Bought the HD Deflectors and have installed the left side no problem. I've got an 07' Street Glide that has Bassani True Duals and a Power Curve. Anyone have tips on getting the right side deflector on. The top screw is blocked by the rocker top and the bottom is blocked by the power curve. Do I need to remove the power curve?

Installed them on my '09 Eglide two days ago. Took my time, planned it out, laid a towel immediately under the holes the clips and screws go in to catch anything that might fall. The towel prevented anything that dropped from falling down into the hard to get at places. Take your time and plan and it will get done with minimal fuss.

I've had mine on for a while now, and they do make a big difference, so I'm glad I installed them. If I had it to do over again, though, I'd go buy some shorter bolts with a standard hex head on them rather than the allen style bolts. That way you could get a ratcheting open end wrench on them.

As I am reading this I am laughing inside. I thought maybe it was just me. I believe I made up some new words when I put them on my 08....

!$%%@@^@@$%^&*^)%$*# spring clips. I lost both of mine. One's in the bike somewhere, the other is somewhere in the garage. I heard it hit but can't find it. Went to the hardware store and got some new ones. They look to be better designed and should hopefully go on easier.

Well, I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought these were a lot of trouble that should have been simple. Anyway, in the time I've had them on I notice a good difference - not near as uncomfortably hot on my thighs as before. I'd like to have done something to actually make the bike run cooler, but just shielding from the heat helped a lot.
