Default Need some fork help....

Well I've slowly been gettin my bike back together...works been keeping me too busy, but I've got my modded stock bars (wires internal), painted inner and modded forks (right side shaved and racetech internals, and chromed) on.
Here is my problem...it would appear there is too much chrome on the right side where the axle go's. It will not seat properly, I checked against an unchromed set and and it sits nice and flush, but not on my chromed.
How do I fix?
It appears to be only at the edges, can I just sand down the chrome a bit?
Any Ideas?
I'm leavin the continent tonight, but this thing is buggin me so I thought I'd throw a post out. Hoping to get it back on the road when I get home.
Thanks

I had the same problem a while back with some V Twin lowers I got off the auction, thought they were Harley's from a chrome shop. Never had this problem with factory chrome legs. Anyways, just use a small sanding wheel and it will be fine...Hope this help.

BTW, what brand are the legs?

I just put my front end back together with similar add-ons as yours, I didn't have a problem with my axel, I did have to use a 5/16-18 tap to clean my fender mounting holes. I would probably take a flat file (smooth) and flatten the flange, I wouldn't use any kind of emory cloth or paper.

Break(chamfer) the two edges with silicon carbide sandpaper and a sanding block.240-320 should work.

Hey thanks for all the help. The fork lowers are off an 06 Ultra, I had the right side shaved, then chromed both and put them on my 07SG.

I would think the chrome build up would make the radius/id smaller.Wont be the same fit as stock.

Yeah, for the most part it's negligble, but on the right side it is a problem, thus the post.

If the build up is real bad,you could bolt the cap on then measure the ID.Use a small cyl. hone and hone it out to .001-.002 " smaller than the axle dia.
