Hey guys,
I installed a set of the chrome sliders and am in the process of putting the front end back together. I ran into a problem with the axle though, it seems that the chrome has decreased the diameter of the hole on the left side fork and I can slide it through. Im going to use a hone to open it up. But Is this a common problem?
I purchased them directly from a chromer. I chased all the threads but I didnt even think about the axle issue. I saved over a $100 but now im paying for it.
Sure its the right sliders? Harley changed axel sizes on some model years, without changing anything else, so those would fit but not work with your axel and wheel.
I don't buy HD chrome. I send all my stuff out, and I've never had a problem like that. I've done about 20 sets so far. I'd double check to make sure they are the right ones. I'd also try to smooth down your axle before you go to honing on the chrome. In the end it will just cause it to peel off around that area.
Okay now you are making me nervous. The Sliders have all the casting marks smoothed but I was told they are for 2000 and up touring models. I will look at it again tonight with a fresh set of eyes, it was about 12:30 last night when I was messing with it and gave up. Hopefully it will be a different story tonight.
