I got back and fourth between my 07 Softail (cable) and my 08 Ultra (wire) with out noticing any difference in response.
The 08 has cruise control and I use that on long rides sometimes... With the wire I can role the throttle forward and it cancels cruise, so I do not have to hit the brakes or "cancel" the cruise with the switches.
No issues here whatsoever. I like it just fine and honestly I don't een notice the difference anymore. I do like the Heat Management feature a lot though.

I'm completely satisfied with mine.
To the OP, if your throttle is, as you describe, "lazy," there may be something wrong with it. If anything, mine was a bit too sensitive for me at first and it took some getting used to. Also, as a point of reference, the electronic throttle on my Corvette gives instant response with no hesitation whatsoever. My bike's throttle works the same, no hesitation at all.
