cam tentioners
when i drained my oil i found a couple of orange fibers in the oil, looks like from cam shoes
bike has been getting noisy, bike has about 50.000 miles on it
took to the Harley dealer,he said should not ride until cam shoes are changed,if they give out big trouble,so i thought i would get the lifters, cam chain & bearings and he suggested going threw the top end and changing the breathers to the new metal type instead of the plastic ones, said the cost would be the same as putting in adjustable push rods because the price of the push rods is about the same as the labour to take the top end apart, and with the rocker covers off they can see a little more.
bike is a 02 road king with about 50.000 miles
any comments job is about 1400 Canadian, cam tensioner, cam bearings chain, lifters, breathers gaskets ext.
along with adjustable lifters.
While the bike was in the shop (independant), I also had them install an
automatic primary adjuster and an 'easy clutch'. My total was $1400 (US $)...
I have 29,000 miles on the bike and the mechanic said it looked like I could have
gone another 20,ooo with the original shoes...but I now have piece of mind.
I don't know if that would be the route you want to take.....and I plan on keeping my bike for awhile...but what I did is an option.
