My downshifter shaft came loose this morning. I was able to get home and tighten it down. My question is that I've noticed a slight freeplay with both heel and toe shifter and shaft. Is this normal.
I did use a lot of torgue on both screws.
After I adjusted my toe shifter for more room with steel toe boots, I notice they have some play. Bolts are tight though. So I don't worry about it. It rattles a bit at idle.
2nd thing I did to the bike was to remove the heel shifter, insert the Kury spacer and move the toe shifter to the outboard position. While the shift lever was off I did a little filing on the inside of the bolt flange it so I could clamp it tighter. Also saved the heel shifter in my tool kit so I'll have a spare when someone elses falls off.
BTW. The first thing I did was put the Soos 1 inch floorboard extentions on so moving the toe shifter out that extra inch made everthing just right.
Riding with a heal shifter for 25 yrs now and would'nt have it any other way.....Should say,ya they shake a bit but never had a issue so why change, should of seen the set up shake on my 80 FLT...
Did the floor board extensions and then the extended shift arms. Have quite a bit of room on the floor boards now. Buddy of mine had the same issue. Internal splines were worn so he bought new arms.
Mine did the same thing, what I did to fix it was take them both off and switch them and it fixed the issue now they are both tight. I had the play in it and could not live with it. Once I switched the front with the back it worked just fine. 4000 miles on it no issues.
