Has anybody fitted the headlamp trim ring to their Road King Classic (part # 69627-99)?
Apart from being a fiddly job, when fitted over the OEM trim ring (as per instructions) there is an ugly gap between the headlamp lense and the back of the new trim ring, ranging from 1/8" at the top to 1/4" at the sides and bottom. The pic in the shiny bits catalogue does not show this gap. Any suggestions or is this just the way it is?
OVER the OEM ring? Didn't read the instructions to notice that. I have a rule that prevents me reading instructions when the part has only one screw ;-)
The fitment is not what it supposed to be, agree that too. I have to try over the OEM ring...
I to this day have no idea why people have such a hard time with these damn trim rings. Have one on my EGC. Had one on both Street Glides and my RK Custom and never had a gap. Took all of about 5 minutes to do too every one.
Hey, the guy asked a legit question. He has 18 total posts. He does not have a clue that people have discussed that POS ring. Give him a break. The gap is there, according to my dealership, to allow water to escape.
I was aware of the gap at the bottom. Because of previous dead horses. But until I installed it, I wasn't aware of the gap between the rear of the trim ring and the lense. Looks like crap, but not unless you look closely. I guess I never looked that close before. I'm going to be checking out everyone elses now. Beat that horse!!!!!

Cheers,
Chris.
try installing the new ring without the old one. you fill have to fill the space around the headlight with door seal tape (the stuff you buy at any hardware store to keep drafts out). just wrap the tape around several times, try fitting the new ring, if too lose, wrap some more tape until fitment is good. if you search on this topic, you'll find this same remedy has worked for many with no gaps anywhere.
