Not difficult. Label everything as you disconnect it and you should be fine.

I took my fairing mount mirrors off so now I have some holes. (painted inner on top of that lol) I been thinking about doing changing it myself as well. I would guess, service manual and take your time.

Not a hard project at all. As mentioned above, label everything, makes the install much eaiser. I followed the steps in teh Service Manuall and used a plastic tray with dividers to hold the hardware for each step, made keeping track of all the nuts, bolts and screws eaiser. Had the mirror holes patched by the painter, he only charged $200 to patch and paint.

It's a simple, but tedious project; definitely a DIY--there are just a lot of electrical connections to disconnect/reconnect and, of course, the gauges to remove and reinstall. Take some digital pics of the "before" location of the connectors and label them for ease of reassembly.

The HD Service Manual has excellent step-by-step directions. On '06 and newer bikes, reinstalling the ignition switch seems to be a problem area involving the tumblers. I've done my '04 twice and the ignition is different, so I really don't know what's going on with the '06 and newer ignition, but there is plenty of information on that topic. The painted inner fairing is probably the best bang for the buck cosmetic mod you can make IMO and you get to enjoy it as you ride.

My dealership charged me for "3 hours labor" to install the inner fairing and I never bought the inner fairing from them.
Just to give you and idea of cost.

The speaker change is basicly a no brainer job. Not even close to an Inner Fairing change.
7 screws to remove the front half of the fairing
A few screws and slide 2 wires on each speaker
DONE
Even upgrading to the 6 1/2" speakers, is simple. He$$ I did it. LOL

Pretty straight forward project as others have stated. Way to save time is see if you can find a takeoff, get it painted and then sell your takeoff or keep as a spare. Found a local painter who does the work for one of the HD Dealers. Did a great job matching the paint, and when all was said and done, had $125 and about 4 hours of my time in it.

Great Winter project...
