I put a PCV on my bike mainly to cool it down a little. It did that plus made the bike run stronger and better. As some mentioned, I live in the south, it has been 90+ here for several weeks. It is warm outside but the engine definitely is not cooking my legs like it did last summer.
I have the exact same set up on my '09 EGS, except I have the Power Commander instead of the VH Fuel Pak, and mine runs excellent, even in the heat. In stop and go traffic my rear jug will turn off automatically as it should, but I don't feel like I'm cooking the **** out of my legs even if it's 90 degrees out. The shop that did the work for me told me not to go with the VH because it's crap compared to the PC and I'm glad I shelled out the extra money for it.
I've got a 2009 FLTR. I've done the same as you, but I didn't use the fuel-pak this time. I used the V&H Fuel-Pak on my last bike. It was a 2005 FLHTCSE. I didn't like it! There was to much popping going on. 2005 bike had True duals and Screamin Eagle mufflers with nothing done to the Breather when I bought it. and it run pretty dam good.I went and put a Arlen Ness Big Sucker on it and the V&H Fuel Pak, u-no to compensate for the breather. It did not run as good. Mite of been a little faster @ higher rpm, but overall was not better. Anyway I had Reinhart Mufflers and the Stage 1 kit, with the download from Harley put on my new one b/4 I took delivery. I've recently installed the Heavy Breather. My bike runs GREAT! Ye-it gets hot but its not that bad.I think that cylinder cut off is working @ times so I mite not be noticing the Heat as much.I havn't had my cruise control lite flicker, to show me that it is working, havn't heard of that will have to check Owners Manuel, but TRY the DOWNLOAD. I'm more than Happy with the TEMP., and the way my Bike performs with this Set-Up.
I too have a heat problem...Thinking same thing..V&H pipes (already on) K&N Intake and a Power commander or Fuel Pack..All have multiple complaints etc..Really need a solution here.. The reflector that is mounted on the outside of the right down tube has melted off !!! Time to take action.Dealer ?? Yeah , right..ours is clueless.
Sorry..2005 FLTR i..... Road Glide

Reason: Added year and Model
I ran a fuel pak last summer on my 07 RK police. No popping, backfiring and the bike ran much cooler than without it. Changed cams this spring and went to a PCV and am still working on getting it properly tuned.
Get a full exhaust system to get rid of the cat in the stock header, some sort of decent tuner and a Dyno. You will be happy. It will be worth the expense.
i'm running the newer version of the sert which is called the sepst and dyno tuned. the sepst stands for screamin eagle pro super tuner. it came with the 103 kit and it runs noticeably cooler than it did when it was a basically stock 96" motor with slip ons and the se air cleaner. i'm a firm believer that when the fuel can be fattened up to the correct ratio along with the rest of the dyno tune, it's the way to go rather than guessing what needs to be done. it was sure worth the money to do it the right way, for me anyway.

+1
Could not agree more. With the exception of my Buell which is 100% stock, I don't run a canned map or settings in any of my bikes. Nothing beats putting the bike on the dyno and really setting it up right. Of course it's easy for me to say since I can tune my own at work, but even if I had to pay for it (and I have in the past) I would say it is worth it if you do any significant mods.

the only thing that gave me relief was having my pipes jet-hot coated. i tried a tuner (thundermax). tried removing the lowers, bought rj's originals which do help directly for the crotch area. but the over all heat did not go away till i had my pipes jet-hot coated.
Wrapped the pipes on my 09 ultra and am amazed at the difference. It worked so good I put the lowers back on. Really notice it not getting as hot in traffic. Best $70.00 I ever spent on my bike.
