I have a 09 EGS with SE heavy breather, Rinehart slipons., and VH Fuel pak. It is VERY HOT. The bike runs fine,a little decel popping every now and then. I have been thinking about a Power Commander, and maybe Amsoil. I have the HD syn in it right now. What do you guys think? I understand they run hot, but it is WAY too hot!!
are you using the heat management mode? i think you hold the throttle forward (ignition on but not running) prior to starting for 5 seconds and the computer will shut down the rear jug at a certain temperature. oh i think the cruise control light will flash i think when it activates. ask the dealer he can explain or check your manual.
Is the EITMS (engine idle temperature management system) kicking in? Maybe you need to fatten up the tune a bit or maybe just an oil cooler would help. Has the bike been dyno tuned?
I would start with that. Running hot can mean running lean and that can cause major engine damage. By getting a good tune you'll know that it is running properly and your going to spend as much on an oil cooler with install as a good dyno tuning anyway. Page 145 in your owners manual will tell you how the EITMS system can help if you are sitting in traffic and its getting hot.

mazman, to what are you comparing your '09? Where do you ride and what kind of riding are you doing? I ask because if you are riding in the south or anywhere else that's 90* or so, you will be hot. Ditto if you are riding in heavy, slow traffic.
Before you throw $$$ at what may be a good running, not lean, engine, spend about $10 for an infrared thermometer and measure the cylinder head temperatures at the base of the spark plugs immediately after shutting off the engine. If it's 260* or so, it's not "hot" relative to a good engine tune.
I ran the fuelpac on my 06 Ultra for 3 years working on it trying to get it to stop popping. I have V&H true duals and oval mufflers S&E breather. I tried too many times to cure the problem including working many times with V&H.
In the end I installed a PClll with a canned map from eastern performance and all of the problems were solved, the bike is no longer running lean and hot, torque is very good as well as a HP jump. I haven't dynoed it so I cannot give you the numbers, but the performance is absolutley fantastic.
I live in AL, so it is very hot here. I understand that. I ride very frequently. It just seems hotter than it should be. I have heard that when they dyno, they run the s##t out of them. The dealer I said I need a SERT and dyno. The local dealer says not to do the SERT. Everyone says somthing different! I don't want to ruin the bike, it is my pride and joy!!
