However, any good clear RTV can be used for adhesive on this.

Yes, the tape's backing can be difficult to removed......it's a bit tricky. Suggestion, that has always worked for me try using a needle or pin to get a small corner started. I've found great success with an little exacto blade. The tape is my choice, but each to their own.
