Going with the ARC upgrade that's been going around this forum -- 6.5" speakers & bigger amp. Look for posts by Firecap. I've spoken with him & I think this'll do it for me.
I remember seeing something about the ARC posts now. I'll try to look up Firecap.

Thanks!

Harleypingman - Good info, especially about the wiring harnesses...was not aware. Good looking popo bike too. Where did you get your front fender. I want to replace mine with one that hugs a little tighter, too.

These 6.5" speaker adpaters are available from a variety of vendors, including Biketronics, FireCap501, Throttle-up Industries, etc.
So what's in there? I haven't had mine apart yet but was just planning on a simple install of speakers and a head unit. Isn't it just a hole? I was hoping to just install speakers into the holes...

CTC: It's a Russ Weirmont (sp?) a/k/a RWD stock-like front fender. $229 delivered (IIRC) from Eastern Performance Cycles, a forum sponsor.

JP: The speaker adapters are plastic rings basically that go between the speaker and the inner fairing. The reason for the adapters (both the OEM and 6.5" variety) is (I've been told and seems to be true if you examine the inner fairing) that the inner fairing was originally designed for 4" speakers back in the day (say early '90's or so), and to use the 5.25" speakers the adapters are necessary. With so many EG/SG owners going to the 6.5" speakers, you should be able to post a WTB in the classifieds and pick-up a pair of the OEM adapters cheap. Otherwise, IIRC they're about $14 ea. from the HD store.

If you go to the top of the Touring section, check-out Gas Can's sticky and the links it contains. Plenty of pictures to show what's involved in mounting speakers and headunit.

Suggestion (strong): Buy both the HD Touring model Service Manual for your model year and the corresponding Police Supplement. The wiring diagrams and appendix dealing with the electrical connectors HD uses (and how to assemble and disassemble them) are invaluable.

I'm definately getting the service manuals. Just hadn't gotten around to it.

That's good info about the speaker adapters. If I am going to have to buy them anyway I might as well go with the 6.5" ones. Shoud'nt be that much more.
