IF it had anything to do with the Amsoil, (which I doubt) this is a good case of the dealer covering his butt. Did your buddy have anyone look at the torn down engine and confirm it was oil-related?
The engine builder made the call. He tore it down and called my friend and said "When did you switch to Amsoil". Problem started in the oil pump. I know a lot of people happy with Amsoil and I was going to switch now that warm weather is here and just wanted to make certain I didn't need to do something special.

I went through a forum sponser recently, Amsoil dealer Heath Palmer. 12 quarts of Amsoil 20-50 and 1 quart of 75 - 140 Severe Gear. The total including shipping and sales tax was $128.00 delivered within 48 hours of my order. That works out to less than $10 per quart.

Time and gas are money so the delivered price is good with me. Plus I like to support a forum sponser.

I use 75-110 Amsoil, it works great, made the tranny a lot quieter, I have used Amsoil for years, I even use it in my lawn mower.

Just switched to AMSOIL in the Primary and Tranny.

Using 20w50 in the Primary

75W140 in the Tranny

No problems thus far.

At 20,000 miles, I would be worried about the gaskets leaking if you never ran synthetic oil before.....That's just my opinion and also from personal knowledge after I developed a leak in a truck I had after switching over to synthetic with 15,000 miles on it.....

I was talking about the engine oil......If the original poster is just talking about tranny oil, I must have not read it correctly....Should not be an issue with just changing the tranny oil...

using amsoil since 8K in engine and added it to primary at 11,700.(10k service) Definitely runs cooler.
Mobil gear lubricant in tranny at 10k service/ So far so good.

If you are traveling keep a quart or of Amsoil in your saddlebags as it seems you never know where you can find a dealer.

I was running the HD Syn3 in all 3 holes, then decided to try Amsoil. I switched to Amsoil and put Severe Gear 75/90 in the tranny. After the switch, I couldn't notice any difference in noise or any easier to change gears or find neutral. Once I use up the Amsoil that I purchased, I'll switch to something less expensive. Possibly Mobil1.
