Exclamation I know, another amsoil thread

Morning everybody,
I'm getting ready to plunge into the world of Amsoil and switch the bike over. I have a 07 Electra-Glide Classic with 20k on it. What I would like to know is I am considering the Amsoil severe gear 75-110 for the tranny. Does anybody use this and how does it seem? Or, what is the recommendations from everybody here.

Sorry about this being another oil thread.

A lot of people run that, I just put the heavier weight stuff in mine on Sunday. I think its 75/145 or something like that. Anyway, the answer is yes and the reports are good. You can also use Redline in the tranny as well, both work great its a personal preference as to which is better....

I use Amzoil in the tranny and engine, I use atf in the primary...all good for me.
I am in the process of recording info on usage I just changed mine 3000 miles ago and I lost 3/4 quart of oil...it never used oil. A little disturbing.

not using amsoil, but i do use 75/140 (royal purple) in the tranny and it works well. i think any gear oil of that weight would work just as well.

Not to hijack but where is the best place to pick up Amsoil? I found a few places on line but they wanted $11-13 per quart? That seems high...

Cool

Currently running the Severe Gear in my 09 SG tranny and it appears to be doing what its supposed to do......smooth up and down shifting; no binding. The rest of the bike is on Amsoil 20/50 W.

Ditto that comment. Any of the heavy gear oils work well in 6-speed trannies, and hyping specific brands as being "best" is without a practical foundation, IMO. I've used RP and Redline SPH, presently the latter only because of price, and they both work equally well. Like engine oil, I think the best strategy is to pick among the usual suspects (M1, RP, RL, Amsoil, Belray, etc.) based on price and availability, as they're all good.

A friend of mine changed to Amsoil and had an engine failure. He contacted his Amsoil person and they told hime he had trouble becuase he didn't run a detergent through the engine first before using the Amsoil. I can't find anything on the web site about using a detergent. Is this true or bs?

BS is the correct call on that one. I ran my hopped up FXD on Amsoil for over 13,000 miles and never had any problems. And I sure as hell did nothing to switch from stock HD oil other than drain the old dino oil. IF it had anything to do with the Amsoil, (which I doubt) this is a good case of the dealer covering his butt. Did your buddy have anyone look at the torn down engine and confirm it was oil-related?
