Default OK, Another Stupid Jack Question

This is my first Harley, an '07 EGS and I am going to do my own service. I just got a yellow Harbor Freight jack and I need to know if the rear cross member of the jack goes against the front of the cross brace on the bike. It appears that is the only place it can fit. The original owner had low profile shocks put on the back so I can just get the jack under it when I stand the bike up straight. Was pretty nervous the first time I put it up and the rear was considerably lower than the front but still cleared the floor at the lowest safety lock position. The bike did not seem unstable when I put pressure on the back but I just want to be sure I am doing this correctly.

Well....the rear skid is supposed to go in between the rear (bow-tie) crossmember, but some lifts do have wider skids than other, so if that's your situation then you are fine going directly in front of the rear crossmember. Several members here do exactly the same thing. In the case of my (Sears Red) lift, I just trimmed the rubber pad with a razor blade to make the profile narrower. Now the skids fit underneath the crossmembers with only millimeters to spare, but they're under it where I want 'em. You might check your lift to see if you can do the same.

The skids on the HF are a little wider than the narrowest part of the bow tie. I wonder if I can rest the front or rear lip of the bow tie on the skid. Thanks for the reply.

Either way will work. Before I put my tour pack on I placed the jack in front of the cross member now since I have the tour pack I go right under the cross member for a more even lift.
