Default Jack questions?

I've got the Craftsman pro jack, the yellow one. I put the bike up on it today and to balance evenly the rear jack plate winds up under the formed crossmember, just doesn't seem like the right position. Also there is alot of sway front to back. Side to side is rock solid but the front to rear sway bugs me.

I put the rear inside the cross piece. The swaying seems normal, I have had no issues and do not tie it down. I have moved the bike around while jacked up. If I;'m doing something that will probably shake the bike, I lower it until the wheels are touching the ground.

What makes me nervous is the jack pad doesn't fit inside the coss member so it's sitting on the folded edges of the cross piece. I notice from your pics that you are jacking from the right side. is there a preferred side, or just as needs dictate?

Yes place it in from the right so as you jack slowly, the bike tips off the kickstand. My jack does fit in the cross piece. I have pics (at home) and will post them later.

I cut down a piece of 1X4 to fit inside of the formed edges of the crossmember. The bike sits a little high in the rear but that is ok with me.

I've got the yellow jack for my '07' Heritage Softail Classic. The Softail shocks stick down below the frame, so I have to place the jack forward of them. This leaves the bike a bit tail heavy and puts a twist on the jack. To solve this problem, I bought the $14.00 dollar small piston jack from sears and place it on the frame just forward of the rear tire tire. This relieves the twist in the jack and stabilizes the bike forward and aft.
