Default Jacking?????

I have the Sears Pro motorcycle jack. I'd like to know if anyone else has this jack and how to properly position it under the frame. I have an 05 Electra Glide. When I tried jacking up the bike, it appears to be off center so the front wheels raise first. More weight in the rear of the bike. Is it safe to put the jack on the cross member of the frame?? I would think only then the bike would be more centered on the jack? Or should I position the jack next to the cross member of the frame and use a 2 x 4 on the rear portion of the jack??

On my 93 ElectraGlide, I put my jack in front of the crossmember. Yes the front end does come up first (but not off the ground) before the rear. I've got a 'roll around' stand that I use under the bike when I'm doing 'heavy maintenance' and one side fits nicely into the crossmember channel. I also lift the bike from the jiffy stand side. It's easier and you can do it by yourself without having to worry about the jiffy stand being down and locked because it's difficult to see from the other side.

I have the same jack and bike. I put one of the jack supports inside the U-channel like cross member at the rear of the frame. It puts the weight a little towards the front, but it works fine. There's not much clearance between the jack when collapsed and the frame, so using any other "shims" would not be easy, and it would not make the solid connection you want when it's jacked all the way up. Hope this helps. George

On my Road King I had to go right in front of the crossmember. I asked this question and the topic was "How to use a Jack" Do a search and read some of the replies. It helped me a lot.

Place the REAR pad as close as possible to the FRONT of the crossmember. It will not fit inside...WARNING...DO NOT use a shim!

I have the same jack and use it on a Road King. I put one pad under the crossmember and jack it up from there. I may try to fabricate a thicker pad for the side not under the crossmember, but for now it works great. I roll my jack in from the opposite side of the stand, then raise it up. When lowering I verify the jiffy stand is down, and then turn the wheel to the ccw side and lower the bike to the ground letting it rest on the jiffy stand.
