True Duals for '09 SG - What do you really lose - real numbers....
I have read that you lose Torque with True Duals, but not HP. I currently have Rush slip-ons installed on my '09 Street Glide (previous owner had them installed when buying bike). The bike is completly stock execpt for the Rush mufflers. I want to know, what I will lose - from the current Rush setup, buy going to True Duals. I am thinking I will gain HP & TQ by going to True Duals, but just not gain as much TQ as if I went with a 2-into-1 setup. I don't like the looks of 2-1's on the Glide models, and want to stick with the "Dual" look.
My plans for the bike in the next 2 weeks are the following:
SE Heavy Breather - Black
Exhaust of some kind - Black, of course
Power Commander 5
Wrinkle Black Primary, Trans top, Trans Side, & Cam Timing covers
The exhaust part it where I am SO confused! The options I am considering are as follows, in no perticular order:
V&H Black Widow Slip-ons, leave the HD head pipes on & get Black heat shields.
Rinehart Black Slip-ons, leave the HD head pipes on & get Black heat shields.
Samson 4" Black Slip-ons, leave the HD head pipes on & get Black heat shields.
Bub 7 True Duals - Black with Chrome tips.
I like the True Duals option, what do I lose or gain by leaving the stock head pipes on? - but need more info to make a good decision - that's where all you good folks come in. Help me to understand the pros and cons on the exhaust.
I have read almost every thread I could find on exhaust, and I know that each person you ask "what kind of exahust should I get" - will answer differently. I hope that I have asked this question in a way that will actually help me, or some others, wondering the same thing. I don't want to know which type of exhaust to get, I want to know the exact difference (HP & TQ) betwen the types I am considering. Thanks to all who have some good hard number input.

Or if you want max performance go with Thunderheader 2-1 with the falsey.
Both come in black i think

It doesn't necessarily ANSWER your question, but it will put your further along the path toward that answer.
The short version suggests that the stock '09 header pipes are as good as most (all?) available aftermarket head pipes - and that slip-ons are a sound investment.
Since your bike is fully stock except the Rush slip-ons, maybe you should consider opening up the air cleaner and modding the fuel management (e.g., PowerCommander).
Hope this helps.
1: Your bike is stock now, doing the stage 1 will give you more power over what you have regardless of if it is slips-ons, true duals or 2 into 1s. So you won't notice the difference.
2: With the 09's the crossover goes underneath so there isn't a heat issue with having the crossover on the stock headers.
3. I too, have read in numerour places that Harley stock headers are just fine and unless you are a number cruncher they are fine to keep.
I personally went with Bub7 True Duals w/out the crossover because I liked the look more and wouldn't feel the power loss because it was better than stock. My stock pipes were in rough shape so that made me want to go with a whole new exhaust setup.
1: 2-into1
2: Stock head pipes with slip-ons
3: Stock
4: True Duals - yep TD's will make you lose torque as comparied to stock - I find this quite hard to believe, but that is what he told me.....

I already had the SEST and had a very good tune with the slip-ons, but thought the fatcat would've given me at least 6% to 8% better, but no.
On an '05 SEEG I burned up a pro-pipe hs and as I was selling the bike the buyer asked that we put V&H bigshot duals on it. I did and we tuned it...lost over 10% hp and 12% tq...but then...the pro-pipe hs is legendary as a power pipe.
moral of story(for me, not everyone)...I should've stayed with the stock headpipe and spent the D&D money somewhere else...
