It really depends on your depth when it comes to fix'n and dickering - recognizing a bargain. The 07 is a good entry - 96 ci, twin cam, fuel injected, 6 speed. Nice, but be aware of the heat issues and 5th gear clatter.
Might go for an 07 if its a great deal but I think I am going to hold out for an 08 or 09. How much difference is there really between 08 and 09? Is the ride a whole lot better with the new frame?

I went from an 03 RKC to an 09 Ultra, it was a significant difference. I never rode an 08 to compare. You spoke of a V-star, are you going to trade a bike in? You never mentioned a down payment. I would try to go new if you can swing it.
You need to save up for a while so you can put down a large down payment. when the 10s come out, there will be 09s available used with low miles. Get your own private financing trough a credit union. you will not pay for all the phony mark ups that the dealers put on the purchase price, you won't have to break it in, and most likely the bike will have some expensive up grades all ready done. Be patient
I've had a 07 that I installed the IDS on (Son is riding it now), an 08 Anniv. Edition (got totaled in an accident) and now have an 09. I would go for the 09. Handles better than the 07 or 08.

Probably going to sell the V Star 1300 outright. As far as a down payment goes, I am going to put down around 5k. If I wait til later in the year could be more down.
Well, after talking with the wife tonight she has given me the go ahead to 250 per month. She still has not ridden the bike, so maybe when that happens I can go up to 300...
