in my opinion the 96" motor and especially the 6 speed trans is something i would really not want to go without. when i ride a friends' 05 and 03, they just don't have the torque, nor the sixth speed that i really have gotten to like. when the 0-10's come out, look for huge discounts on remaining stock of 09's. harley built more 09's than the economy will support. so it's going to take time for the harley shops to sell them off. be patient if you can. remember, the repo man has been very busy lately with people losing their jobs, etc.

I hope so! Would love an 09 if I can talk them down quite a bit.

Before deciding on what year, confirm what your bank will allow.

I did the math on a $200 mo. pmt over 5 years, and with a 6% interest rate your initial loan would be $10,345.

So unless you will be putting down another $10K or so a new or newer bike may not be an option.

Keep in mind the dealer used to be able to provide financing on private party used bikes. Not sure if they still so with all the financial issues lately. But say you found a used bike in your area, take it over to the dealer and they may be able to work out a financing deal for you. Not free of course, but may open up your choices in used bikes and get it checked out at the same time.

By the way, I run on the freeways around here in CA below 3000 rpms in 5th (not stock) so even an EVO (90s) bagger works, but the stock brakes are bad which I'm in the process of modding to 4 or 6 pot brakes.

2002 is a decent year though, still had Timken bearing and has the newer FI system. Think there was a thread a while back comparing the years. if I find it I'll edit this post.

A little more info at this post as well:

Yeah my bank will allow up to 72 months. And then Harley goes up to 84. I would assume I can negotiate the rate, and my credit score is up around 810ish so I hope I have at least some bargaining chips in what the rate is.

08 or 09 it is. I am going to check around all the dealers within 250 miles or so later in August to see if any are dying to move an 09.

A $200 month budget imposed by the CFO/CEO doesn't give you many options. Dealer financing for 84 months isn't gonna help because you have to pay sales tax and other junk fees buying from a dealer and while a 810 credit score is excellent you are still looking at about 9% interest thru Harley's financing division. Better hope your CFO doesn't ever listen to Dave Ramsey, your $200 month budget will go to zero. Good luck though, evo's are good bikes too.

Why 9? seems like people on here have been getting down in to the 5s for interest rates with a bit of negotiation.

When I bought mine I had pre arranged a loan from my credit union at 4.75%, when I made the deal I told them I would finance w/ them if they could beat my rate. The finance guy told me HD couldn't touch credit union rates, they are set up to get payments down by offering longer term loans not by lowering interest rates. He never offerd me a credit app. My credit score is over 800 as well.
