Hello, I want to replace the seat on my 08 Police Electra Glide. Other than removing all the seat, air, etc. are there any other modifications that will need to be done? I'm hoping that it's a direct swap for any seat made for 08 touring bikes.
I just put a cop seat on my EGC, and there's nothing to keep it from a direct swap. You will probly need the single nut thingie in the top of the fender to bolt the seat down. You can pick one of those up at you local stealer. You'll also probly need a license plat bracket.
another thing that you may want is the tank console trim piece. get rid of the plastic cop piece. this allows you to replace seat with a road king seat. drag specialties has a chrome one that is about $45.. cop seats with all hardware etc sell fairly well on e bay. road king sundowner seats are about $225 shipped
Any touring seat will drop right in. Again, you will need the attach bolt/nut in the fender. Cheap part from the dealer.
I changed mine out, but have mixed emotions about it. (Needed two-up seating.) The cop seat is SOOO comfortable. The touring seats will drop you down lower and closer to the tank, so your overall seating "feel" will change a lot. With the cop seat, I felt more like I was "on" the bike and not so much "in" the bike. The view for me with the cop seat was right across the top edge of the windshield....kinda annoying, but now I'm looking right through the upper center of the shield. You'll also get more engine heat in your butt with the stock touring seat. I added a layer of foil-backed firewall insulation underneath the seat and my leather heat shield skirts. Really helps, oh, and seat beads from "beadrider dot com". NICE.
