with 45k on 05 ultra and cc trip comin up i'm thinkin of doin the upgrade. tensioners were checked at 35k. outer looked good but with my poor vision could'nt inspect inner so i don't wanna take any chances. my question is i have se 203 cams and i just want to make sure they are compatable with this kit. also, is replacing lifters and bearings recommended. all imput is appreciated and thanks in advance.
You might as well do them. They are compatible with the 203's. Personally, I would rather get it out of the way regardless of how much wear is left on the old tensioners. Definitely do lifters and bearings while you are in the cam chest. Adjustable push rods will make the job a bit easier so you will not have to remove the tank and rocker box covers.
I just had the upgrade done at 27k. Keep in mind that you can't use any cam in this upgrade and need to use a -n cam. I went with the Andrews 26n cam which is specifically made for this kit. Before you spend any money I'd call HD and ask if your cam will work. I have a feeling it won't.

if looking at using the SE kit, he will use "A" type cams, same as oem chain drive cams for all 99-06 twin cams. the 07+ style camplate conversion requires the "n" cams.
FWIW if you want new cams anyhow, id go with the new style plate conversion. get ahold of herko. if you dont want new cams the SE kit is still a decent upgrade and gets you the new tensioners and oil pump. only downside is it still uses ball bearings on the outer and still uses the original inner chain.
You sure about the "A" type cams on the pre 07's? I got my kit from Herko and in conversations with him I needed the "N" cam for my '06 RK. Isn't the whole point of the kit to convert the tensioner system to the '07 and later style, so why would these later model bikes need the conversion? Don't they already have it?

Just re-read again what you were saying about the "the 07+ style camplate conversion requires the "n" cams" and think I know what you mean. My upgrade included the new style camplate, hence the "N" cams.

the herko kit uses "N" cams, but also uses the 07+ camplate. the SE Conversion, found here: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US uses the stock pre 07 cams and outer cam bearings, as well as the stock inner cam chain. I have the herko kit and "26N" cams, but i researched both options before doing it.

A Harley tecnician told me that my SE 203 cam will indeed work with the SE Hydraulic conversion kit. For whatever that's worth, I haven't done it yet so we'll find out when and if I do, so far I've just replaced them with the old style because they didn't have this hydraulic kit at the time.
