The roll forward on the accelerator at idle to stop one cylinder to assist with heat control does not do that much either!
all this does is enable/disable the EITMS. it does not actually make it kick in. the ecm will do that automatically when the cylinder head temperature reaches a certain threshold (i believe its 280*, but don't hold me to that)....
be sure to come back after you get with jamie and let us know what you did and what your results were.
Good discussion on the heat issue. I am still thinking that the PC
V, SEAC and may even switch to the Jackpots are the way to go. Great summer riding out here in the Northwest. Thanks everyone! Maggie
on my 07 i started with synthetic then rj originals, rj originals really helped then added xied"s helped somemore then went with fuelmoto stg1 package WOW BIG DIFFERENCE. wasted my money on the ieds.so in the end good heat sheilds(not those little plastic harley ones) and fuelmoto package.
I had that problem all last summer on my 04 ultra. I finally found the perfect solution, I sold it and bought me an 08 1800 Goldwing. Just returned from a week in Florida. Quiet, fast and cool. And the Harley riders still waved at me.
I also have a new 09 Ultra. I too have found it to be hot - especially on the right side. Today I experimented with adjusting the wind deflectors on the bat wing. I found that about 10% tipped (at highway speed) deflects the air down to my feet and really helps increase riding comfort. At low speed I just open the deflectors all the way. Try this. I think you will find it to be a big help and it is FREE!
I took a multi-stage approach to reducing the heat. First, I placed a layer of automotive foam/foil heat insulation blanket underneath the seat. This seems to help buffer the heat coming up through the saddle.
Then, I made up a set of leather skirts to provide a bit of a buffer between the pipes and my inner thighs (like Itch and RJ's originals make, but I do leather work too so I just made my own).
Third step thus far was Beadrider dot com seat beads. I now get some airflow beneath me while moving, but these don't help much when sitting at a red light. All three of these measure have helped noticeably, but the bike does indeed get hot when it's not moving. That's life with an air cooled engine between your legs. I ride in 95 deg. heat too, so I feel your pain. It will get better, or you'll just learn to adapt.
I added a 10 row Jagg Saturday. Also have RJ Originals. Rode for a couple of hours Sunday. Outside temp was 95. Rode in shorts and my legs or thighs never got uncomfortable. My oil temp never got over 200. Stayed around 190 most of the time. It the traffic areas, it would go to 200 but drop down after a few miles or cruising.
