If you get the verifying image, and it just hangs there, then chances are the cd is burned at too high of a speed. I know the instructions state 8x, but to be honest this speed is hard to work with the update, if you burn it at 2x or 1x, it should work fine.
I also like to check it first, which is where I will turn it to acc, FM on and insert the CD after about 10-15 seconds it should state CD ROM, at this time you know it will read the CD. Eject it, set up the update screen and insert the CD, if after about 20-30 seconds the verifying image is still showing, turn off and back on the acc. and eject the CD, if after three tries, it stays stuck on the screen, it most likely will not read the image for the update.
I think I read that someone posted they thought the new update was 8.22 and they had 8.19, in reality the new update is 8.25, 8.22 was last year.
I don't have the link handy but I recall Hog Tunes offers some tips on installing updates in their technology section.
Thanks TP! The problem with the download seemed to be the burn to disc rate. Burned the files at 1X and the radio read the files accordingly. Now the radio is updated and another problem surfaced: the ipod update keeps aborting and the message "DEV RESP FAILURE" appears. Burned the file again to a disc, just in case and no dice. Am very close to regretting getting this interface.... Any help.. thoughts...
tried burning with windows with 3 different settings and speeds and Finalizing the disc and what not. Then I went to Nero and burned a data disk at 8x and viola no problem loaded right up.

Not sure if you noticed but on the Download page on the H-D site there are two files. 1 is for just the HK radio and the other is for HK radio with IPod interface. If you didn't download the 2nd file, download and install it.

Thanks Nute. I did the dowloads and approached the updates as 2 separate issues. The radio update is done. It's the ipod update that's giving me the "DEV RESP FAILURE" message, while attempting the update with the ipod software download. Burned new discs with the software to make sure I didn't screw that up, however the radio is reading the file. After reading the file it aborts the update and the "failure" message appears.
After burning a half-a-dozen CDs I finally got one to work. Now I have to ask the question - What's the advantage to the update? lol
What worked for me on a Mac is that I used a burning application called Toast (I think there is a Windows version too.) I burned it as an MP3 disk at x1. On a Mac the basic built-in burning software only goes down to x8 in speed. Harley's instructions say you can burn it using ITunes but as far as I can figure you would first have to import the 2 files into ITunes and ITunes did not allow me to do so.

These are pastes from the IPod update instructions;
2. Press soft keys 1, 3 and OK simultaneously.
My note: The instructions for updating the radio itself say any two keys. Are you pressing 1, 3 & ok?
2. Unzip the one update file (7_030800.pna) and save them to your desktop or another location you will remember.
My note: It says 'one update file' but says 'save them' so maybe you need to use one of the 2 files from the radio only download. I think the file that contains the word 'bootloader' is the one you need to burn along with (7_030800.pna), which I think is the update itself.
3. Write/burn these two files to a CD (CD-R or CD-RW) in a standard format (HFS Plus/ISO 9660), iTunes (Audio CD), or MP3 (ISO 9660). Set your record speed down to eight or less and follow the instructions provided by your CD writing software.
My note: Again it refers to 2 files if you haven't tried it I would use (7_030800.pna) which I think is the update itself and the other file, tms320_bootloader_8_25_0.bin, is the file that 'boots' the deck from the CD.
Maybe you have already tried it this way but if not I would give it a try.

I've just installed the ipod interface and downloaded the software for the update & the ipod update and all I get on the radio face id "verifying dsp image" and it does nothing else. Have tried re-burning the files to a cd and still no dice. Any thoughts
I had the same issue the first try then burned a new CD with a different computer and it worked fine. The CD player is picky on how, what the cd is burned on it seems.
