Someone posted why they should be concerned about fork oil in a new bike. I will tell you 7000 miles into my 2004 Heritage, I decided to change the oil and was I glad I did, that stuff was like water and black. Later, I learn that the seals pick up dirt as the forks jounced. I did the forks on the RG but I bought the filler tool. Made things a bit easier.
What tool? I haven't seen that. I was hoping there was something to make it easier but I didn't see anything.
1. pul the speedo housing/fork covers.
2. remove 36mm fork cap bolts
3. remove drain bolts on fork legs
4. go drink a beer
5. put plugs back in
6. pour in appropriate amount of oil through the top (10.8oz if i remember right)
7. reinstall cap bolts and speedo housing.
8. ride.
The little drain pluds are phillips head and are hard to take off the first time...I used a impact driver... Replace with allen or hex head screw. use new brass washers.
Just curious but why are you changing fork oil on a 07? I too have a 07 RG. My last ride was a 97 RK that I rode for 8 years and never changed the fork oil. Am I missing something?
Yes! Screamin' Eagle heavy makes a world of difference.
