I had one on my old bike and obsessed about the oil temperature. I was constantly checking it. It was analog and I practically looked at everytime I stopped at a light. And you know what, it was fine every time I looked but yet, I looked all the time. And you know what the best thing you can do when it does get hot.....put it in the wind and go faster.

Not buying one for my new bike was the best thing I did! I am happy and content not knowing what the oil temperature is. I have an oil cooler, run synthetic, high flow air filter, pipes and a good dyno tune. Beyond that, there isn't much you can do to control the temp. You can tell by the feel and the way the bike is acting if it is getting hot. You won't need a guage to know that. The traffic is going to dictate the airflow and there isn't much you can do about that either.

For your own sanity, please don't do it.

Besides, they are pricey! $140. ????
YOU'RE RIGHT ON EDWARDK ! I'd have been in a rubber room years ago worrying about the heat and every little strange noise I've heard coming out of a Harley V-twin motor.Slap an oil cooler on keep it tuned up and ride the thing.

Have one on my 07. Replaced once. It won't read oil level when cold.
I wouldn't get another one. Waste of money.

The first one fogged up, dealer replaced. The second one had a 50 degree error, dealer replaced. The third one came apart while a tech at the dealership was trying to remove it and one of the nine ball bearings under the retaining clip went down the oil fill hole and ended up in the gearotor of the oil pump. Want to hear more?

There is alot of logic to not having one.Put one on the fairing of my eg,ended up running syn.oil and a cooler,I always look at it.On my Sportster I didn't put oil gague or cooler on it and you know everything is alright.

I had one. The LCD read out filled up with motor oil. P.O.S. I got my money back. Now, that I have the transmission chrome cover, only the stock dip stick will fit.

I ordered one last year. It took a long time for it to come in and the dealer said the delay was because they were waiting for the newly re-engineered model to come in. Mine works great! Other threads have mentioned that it was re-done last year and seems to be trouble free.
