This is one of those worthless posts that does nothing but satisfy one's curiosity.
I am on my 10th motorcycle, the first 4 being Hondas and the next 5 being BMW's with #10 being a 2009 Harley. I guess it just took me a while to cross over but I must say I am one happy camper and REALLY enjoying this bike. At this point in my life this is definitely the bike for me but it certainly costs a lot to do everything you want to do to the bike to make it yours. I am enjoying every minute I ride and every dollar I spend. Just finished writing my will and it is pretty simple - "Being of sound mind and good judgement I leave nothing to anyone as I spent every damn dime on my favorite bike."
How many Harleys have you owned and over what time period?
having ridden since 63, i've had almost everything through the years, moto guzzis, benelli, ducati, beemers, and several harleys. it's been a great ride. i now have an 08 streetglide, and couln't be happier. it'll likely be my last. it's certainly the best one i've owned.
Started out in 1981 with my first bike: Honda CB350. Then sometime later stepped up to a Yamaha 550 Maxium. Later again stepped again to a Kawasaki 750.
Finally in 1987 I got my first Harley: 87 Sportster 1100. After a few years of no scoots got back in with a 2000 XLH Sportster 1200. Then the wife wanted to ride so the 2001 Dyna Wide Glide came in to the picture. When I saw the 2007 Road King Custom I just had to have it. Then finally got a 2009 Ultra Classic in Vivid Black and couldn't be happier.

Reason: Forgot something
I had two Kawasaki. A 2004 Mean Streak a 2006 Nomad. I'm on my first Harley and I don't think I'll buy another one soon. I love this one so much (2009 EGC) that I will keep it as long as it runs. Only then I'll get a new Harley.
Honda 305 back in 1977, then in 1980 bought a HD Roadster, traded a week later on a 1980 1200 CC Super Glide. Sold the bike with 25K on it 5 years later for only $500 less than I paid for it. Gave up riding for 25 years and bought recently an 06 Ultra Classic. I love this bike and will ride it for a long time. Not interested in the newer HDs, just can't see the money and the depreciation in value over the short time frame anymore.
My 06 the guy had over 32K invested, chrome, stage 1, exhausts, etc., and I purchased for just under 15K with only 12K on the OD. I realize currently many are hurting for money and the market is heavy with used bikes, but just can't see shelling out 32K+ for a new Ultra or for that matter any vehicle and watching it depreciate by 25%+ as soon as it is driven off the lot.
