I don't have one of these, and if I did, I don't think I'd trust it and would continue to check my oil level manually. To be honest, I check my oil level about once a week, maybe more if on the road. But I was just thinking that if there was ever a warranty issue that involved any question of maintaining proper oil level, or oil temp..... it might look real good for the record to be able to state that you purchased and used the official HD measurement device and checked your oil level before and after every ride and at every stop.
I'm sure it has been bashed on here before, however I wanted to say it again...
Don't waste your money on Harley's POS touring model electronic dipstick.
I finally got fed up with inaccurate readings or no readings so I stuck my stock dipstick back in. The pisser is I still have one of HDs Softail analog replacement dipsticks which works great and was only about $30. This digital dipstick was around $135 !!
Sorry for the rant... Just didn't want anyone else to waste their money.
One edit: OBTW, I've got an "Oil Level and Temperature Dipstick with Lighted LED Readout - Chrome" for a 88" touring model for cheap. Best thing since the bread slicer...
Edmo
Wow for $135 I would expect it to send regular data to my cellphone before I would shell out that kinda cash.
I'm on my second one. On the first one I was changing the battery and the battery holder came loose. Bad solder. The level on this one is not accurate. Always show overfilled. The temp seems right...
I had one for about 3 years, finally the glass became fogged where I couldn't read it anymore, I don't know how that happened. I now have a guage in my dash, I like it much more, also the price has gone up, I paid less than $100 when I bought mine.
