Which baffle are you guys running in your the D&D FatCat? Are you running the “Stock” louvered baffle, or the "Performance" perforated baffle? Guys running the “Performance” baffle, can you hear the radio at 70+ mph? Thanks!!
I'm running the stock baffle. I don't think you want the performance baffle unless you have a VERY high performance build. If you don't have that, your low-mid perfomance will suffer with no improvement in top end.
I am running the D&D FatCat on my 2006 FLHRCI. I am using the stock baffle. It sounds good when you're taking it easy but gets loud quickly when you crack the throttle. I went to Shure earphones instead of speakers. I could hear the radio at 70mph but not with the clarity I wanted. The Shure's took care of that.
I ran the standard baffle on my 05 RK. I'm at 70-80mph 95% of the time and it's loud. I ended up buying a used baffle on ebay, short one from a softail fatcat, cut the skins off, packed it with standard packing. Nice and quiet when just cruising, but still plenty loud when the right hand gets heavy.
I also run the stock baffle. I talked to one of the techs at D&D (Chris) before I selected that one. He assured me that unless I had a REALLY HOT 95" or better yet 103+, I should go with the standard baffle.
I suggested that perhaps I should buy both, but was informed that they intall differently, due to the size difference. When you buy the pipe with either baffle, it comes with the rear tube drilled for the respective baffle. In order to swap them, you have to drill a different hole for the baffle screw.
I went with the standard adn am happy! 100HP/100ft/lbs of Torque, no sags!
Oh yea.... Radio is A-OK. Actually, the FatCat is a bit quieter than my ThunderHeader was. It is LOUD when you "nail it" though.... (in a GOOD way)
