Hell, I am wanting to make the tour pac detatchable on my 2009 ultra. Harley sells a kit for about $500.00. I was wondering if any of you who have done this would recomend this, and what was involved . I have read that the stereo has to be reflashed by the dealer when you detatch and remount the tour pac. Also is there a cheaper way to do this. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Greg

Reason: clarification
Ok, I parted this whole thing out so I'm not sure I spent the whole 500 bucks for the kit HD sells. In all it was kinda messy for me. What I did was buy the quick detack kit parts/mounts separately. Later I bought the little cable kit HD sells specifically for the Ultra for something like 80 bucks or something. This kit is the quick detach cable kit. I only used half of it as I do not run a FM antenna; I use a hidden one. I also had to buy new frame covers which accept the detach mounts. The frame covers that come with the ultra does not have all the holes you need to bolt in the detach mount. Alternatively, you could just drill the missing holes. I did that temporarly.
All in all, I would probably just get the 500 buck kit HD sells. When I bought all my stuff they didn't offer a kit for the Ultra and buy it through Chicago Harley to save yourself 20%.
I have not flashed the radio. Thats for turning ON the rear speaker outputs for like a SG or Classic which does not have rear speakers. When people add rear speakers to these bikes you need the flash to turn on the rears... not a problem on an Ultra.
Good Luck. I like the look with and without the Tour Pack.
Next time you are at the HD store, stop by the parts counter and ask the guy to print out the installation instructions for the Ultra detach kit. It has detailed instructions that will let you know what's involved in disconnecting the electrical and antennae, etc.
Although I don't have an Ultra, I was interested in the CB antenna relo feature of the Ultra kit since I will be adding the HK headunit w/ CB, use an '08 Ultra TP occasionally, and want to be able to use the CB with or without the TP on the bike. I had the parts guy print-out the instructions for the Ultra kit and they should answer many, if not all, your questions.
