Both my wife's '08 Heritage and my '09 SG will get in the low 40's with the cruise control set at 75-77 mph with no trouble. You mileage should be better.
There is a lot of imagination in the posts that claim higher mileage...
In my case, I have every one of the gas receipts from the most recent trip. All but one indicates mileage of at least 41 mpg with a couple as high as 49 mpg. Most are in the 46 or 47 range. The exception was due to being unable to fill the tank.

Maybe a little envy on your part???
Nope. I been riding years and don't believe you, that's all.
My 2009 RKS has a PCV installed. My mileage suffered a little with that installation but the performance is so much better. Recently I checked the mileage after a day of mild riding. I got almost 41 mpg. It all depends on how you ride it. If I'm riding hard I get between 34-36 mpg. Have gotten as much as 42 mpg when I really baby the throttle.
I just bought a 05 RKC and took it on a 250 mile round trip. Half of that was pulling the Santiam pass and the other was going back down it. Riding two up and varying between 60-70, we avereaged 37 mpg. I was thinking we should have been getting much higher number also. I guess when you bring in all the factors, thats probably sounds about right.
I am convinced its riding style and speed that impacts the MPG greater than wxpected. These guys getting 100 plus mpg are either riding a hybrid motorcycle or little girly riders that run in 6th at 45 MPH and never go over 60 MPH. here is a link with some good observations.
There is a lot of imagination in the posts that claim higher mileage. I think they are guessing, not actually keeping a log. But what do I know?
On my last 3,000 mile trip I averaged 43 mpg over the whole trip. High was 46 and low was 39. '08 EGC 103" stage 2. I kept an accurate log of every once of fuel consumed and mile traveled. This was with mixed interstate (75mph +) and the usual rides around Sturgis.
I just got back from a trip in Europe, rented a 09 UC , riding across France at 100 MPH + I only registered 36 KM per gal. or approximately 22 Mpg. Only did three tanks of gas at this speed but good indication of mpg degradation. Bike only had 5300 kms on Odo, I doubled that + some when I finished the week so it was still new and might have added to the decreased MPG.
This is only anecdotal and not scientific at all, to be used for indication only. The gas is different quality also, 95/85 octane, I am checking how that translated into American spec this week. Lots of pinging on the bike.
