Does your voltmeter stay at a constant 14V when the bike is stopped at a light idling or does it dip down to about 12 1/2V then pert back up to 14V when underway?
I've been having some charging problems and mine is now dipping (especially when the motor is hot) but not all the time. I'm pretty sure it used to stay constant at 14V.
When I'm runnin' about 75 mph, it is near 16, when I'm at a light it is near 12. Yes, it varies according to rpm, gear I'm in, etc. In the winter, heated jacket on the wife and I EATS the juice, I turn my Motolights off to save on the charging system, but I forget the exact numbers, I just know the heated jackets suck juice !!!
Mine was dropping & then coming back up when moving until tonight. It dropped just below 10 & has not come back up. Shut everything electrical that I could & it got me home (aprox. 12 miles). Still started up after I got home so not sure if my gauge is acting up or not but will bring home my multi meter tomorrow & see. Good luck on yours. What kind of chargeing problems are you having?

Same thing happened to me on Monday. Got it home and recharged the battery. Did the 3 tests to prove the Stator is good and it passed all 3 but the engine was not hot. I'm thinking it acts up more when it is hot. When it's 5 or 10 minutes into a ride the VM stays put at 14V wether idling or heavy rpm. When it heats up it has been dipping to around 12V at idle.
One thing I did find was the lack of 12V on the DC plug that goes to the maxi fuse but while tracing the wiring it came good.
It's driving me nuts cause I don't know if I should replace the regulator or stator.

I blew mine 2 months ago going to the smokeys going through Bowling Green. It got down to 10 and would hardly start again. Got new stator, battery and regulator and it now runs 14-15 running and 12 when at a light.
