All I can say is WOW! What a damn good time Sturgis is. I have been to a lot of rallies in the past but nothing compares to Sturgis. We arrived on July 27th because we had to drop the trailer before the vendor tents went up around us and I had planned on riding the 28th, 29th and 30th but as luck would have it we ended up working the 28th and 29th getting a few kinks worked out so all we got to ride was on the 30th but even just getting out that one day was well worth it.
We rode out to the Badlands and did the loop there. If you have never been to the Badlands that is a must see, it was simply amazing to see. We then headed back west on 44 through the national grasslands and went to Mt Rushmore. Another must see and I was told not to expect too much there but damn i was impressed. That is one huge carving and to learn about how it was carved out of the mountain was impressive.
My only bad experiance the whole time was getting some bad gas on 44 outside the badlands. The bike started spark knocking and it took a long time to get that crap burned out so if be sure to fill up before leaving town if your running a high compression engine.
We worked our butts off the next 10 days and I want to say thank you to everybody who came to see us to get their seats worked on. I don't have the final numbers tallied yet but I would say 80% of all the seats we worked on were guys who have heard about us off the HDForums. We worked on over 150 seats while we were there and that was a few more than I was expecting but we did bring enought supplies with us so it worked out very well.
A big thanks to everyone who brought and bought us drinks, after the long 14-15 hour days it was nice to kick back with a nice cold beer outside the booth and watch the sites walking down the road.
We have a couple weeks before the next event which is local then we are heading down to Panama City Beach for the fall version of Thunder Beach so if your going to be in the area stop by and see us.
Glad to hear you had a good time and that your business did well. Congrats in this chatty economy.
Nice that yall made it home safe as well.
Vendors like you folks are one of the few reasons I attand alot of these rallies. Thanks and be safe
I was a great time. I think I saw the booth but it didn't click you were from HD or I would have stopped. I did the badlands/44 loop on Sunday the 2nd. I think we hit close to 100 degrees that day, but otherwise the weather was beautiful all week.
So no mention of the hail.....Did you miss it!!! Glad to hear it was a success!!!! R.W.
Thats a whole other story really but it was exciting. We had two customers bikes sitting outside the booth and had our bikes there also. They said on the radio that the storm was coming and was about 10 mins out so we started moving everything into the trailer. About 5 mins later the warning sirens went off and it was all a-holes and elbows moving everything in. We put our bikes under the trailers awning and put the customers bikes inside the big tent setup next to us. Next thing I know pieces of ice the size of golf ***** were falling(no rain yet, just hail) We got hit pretty hard with the golf ball sized and a few larger but faired a lot better than the guys outside the city limits in the camp grounds. The trailer got a few dings and the truck has one on the hood and 4-5 on the roof.

From my perspective, the rally population was better than last year, probably in the 400,000 - 450,000 range (total).
I thinks its always good to put a face to a name and it was great meeting you. I think you stopped by right as we were starting to get a little busy again after the morning rush. We were supposed to open at 9 AM but every morning we had guys waiting on us to open as early as 7 AM and we were usually up and running by 7:30 or 8 then would close between 9:30-10 PM. It was a lot of hard work but I can't wait to get back there. I am actually a little bored now being back home after the long hours working and late nights out
Allen,
It was nice for me too, to put a face with a voice/name.
Working long hours is pretty common for vendors, though I think y'all put in more than most from my experience. Make sure you take time for yourself during the rally or you'll burn out quick (LOL).
