You're fairly close to the Hill Country. A very well known route is to "Ride the Threes". It forms a triangle to incluce Hwy's 335, 336, and 337. The following link will provide details of this varied terrain in Texas wonderful hill country: http://www.motorcycleroads.us/regions/tx_hill.html. My wife and I have done it a couple of times and found great barbecue, superb apple pies, jalapeno burgers, and an occasional ice cold Lone Star. Good luck
yes,you must do the three sisters just outside of Bandera. It is well worth it.We just got back about a month ago.we stayed at Koyote ranch rv park.Google Koyote Ranch and check it out.

I agree, also the town of Fredricksburg is a very nice town to make stop and spend some time in... I think you'll like it.

Check out the current issue of Ride Texas magazine (no, I don't have a financial interest in this rag -- just an avid subscriber and user of their proposed routes). It has 3 loops in the Hill Country for your riding pleasure!!!

If you're indeed camping at the top of the Comal River...then you're in New Braunfels, not San Marcos. Either way you are within spitting distance of some good riding. Sounds like you have some good riding mapped out. Give the ladies some time to rest their tushes and you will all have a good time. There are plenty of watering holes out there to stop in. Espescially the Three Sisters run. The only leg that is void of watering holes is the northwestern corner of FM 336 to FM335. FYI Camp Wood is in a dry county...no beer. One gas station... but if you want to go into Rocksprings...get rested and watered, you can go back 41 to 335 before going into Camp Wood. Expect extreem heat after 1pm, so you may want to sart at sunrise. Enjoy !!
Riding in the TX Hill Country is fabulous. Things to do: Fredericksburg, Enchanted Mountain State Park, lunch or Dinner at the Oasis on Lake Travis, The Devil's Backbone (RR12), Luckenbach on the weekends, the Three Sisters loop outside of Leakey. Be prepared for 100+ degree temps, and heat fatigue. The temps and sun angle between 3:30 and 6:00 p.m. is especially brutal after a long day of riding. Stop fequently and drink plenty of fluids. I particularly enjoy RR 165 South out of Henly from 290. Other nice towns are Wimberly and Gruene. 6th Street in Austin is nice for evening entertainment.
