the grip itself does not "move" from the cruise, but you can feel the cruise slack the cable due to the cruise throttle actuator giving her some more throttle.

cruise control has become an essential item on my 08 sg. it sure beats that goofy little star wheel below the switch housing. the tbw is great, although the cable system for the 07 and earlier models works fine too. there isn't a need to keep your hand on the right grip if you don't want to. i find that it's more comfortable for me to just set the cruise, and ride with the left hand only, while on the freeway.

***Disclaimer I have an 08 TBW***. The cruise will disengage when you go more than +5 or -5 miles over/under the set speed. For the 08 > TBW I disengage the cruise by rolling the throttle forward (its in the manual). Just a tip not sure it addressed anything you were asking.
