Default Street Glide Radio Aux connection for ipod

I tried to hook my iPod up to the Aux port on my 09 FLHX today. I just used the earphone jack on the iPod and plugged it in to the Aux port on the radio with a similar plug on the other end.. While I could here the music, I was under the impression from the owners manual that I would be able to control the ipod via the radio controls.

Do I need a different type conneting wire? If so, where can I find one?

Thanks

Banks

Nope, you cannot control an iPod from the HD handlebar controls. You can only control the volume, just like w/the radio. I just plug mine in, turn up the volume on the iPod, and press shuffle.

You can only control the volume from the handle bars controls. Set the volume high on the pod and shuffle menu and your good to go.

i was at best buy and walmart looking at ipod nano accessories and found that there are fm broadcast units that plug into the wide usb socket on the bottom of the ipod. they use a dead frequency on your stereo and you marry the ipod's fm broadcaster to that frequency. looks like a great deal. that way you could keep the ipod in your jacket pocket, velcro it inside of your saddlebag, or even velcro it to the fairing somewhere. have your rock n roll on the go. from my way of thinking, it'd sure beat having a wire dangling in the wind. just my thoughts anyway. being inside the pocket of your jacket or secure velcroed inside of the saddlebag or tourpack would make more sense, as it'd sure be easy for someone walking by your bike for it to get ripped off if in view.

there is a reasonable alternative. i made two mp3 discs. one for old time rock n roll, like black sabbath paranoid-santana-grand funk, and another with the more current stuff like zz top, van halen, etc. the mp3 discs will play in your hk radio and then you have control on the songs via the handlebar controls. and you can get several hours worth of music on an mp3 disc. i found that through itunes you can also edit out the crappy songs that you don't like before burning the mp3 disc.

........ here's another benefit of riding an RG.... your iPod resides in the fairing glove box & the patchcord calmly routes from there to the aux input. No hanging, no buffeting, too easy.

btw: i see in the HD accessories online that they're offering an HD branded magnetic tank bag (pocket) that holds an iPod on the tank (or flat on the console for us Glide owners) w/ a clear front panel that enables touchscreen control of an iPhone or Touch w/o having to hold the iPod. Still have to take yer glove off though, or wear those fingerless things.

You got alternatives depending on your IPOD. Check out http://www.ram-mount.com/Products/Mo...8/Default.aspx or http://my.att.net/p/s/community.dll?...THAWGSOLUTIONS or http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductSearch

Yep, got my mount from RAM Mounts. I bought the basic mounting piece that bolts on to the clutch handle and then bought a seperate craddle for my iPhone and Garmin Nuvi 260. They work great. I think it was about $39.00 for the mount and the craddle for iPod (and then extra for the GPS craddle).
