you have no control of how the jets spray inside the washer. and drying you have no control over either. if you want to chance ruining an otherwise good air filter, by all means go for it. but like road ranger mentioned, just wash it out in the sink or out in the shop with the proper chemical cleaner stuff, and allow it to dry. there was a guy a couple of weeks ago who wanted to use my 175# air pressure compressor to dry his filter. i explained to him that he'd shred and blow holes in his filter even if i turned it down to 90 psi. he took my advice and went home and washed his filter. glad he did , or i'd be the one who screwed up his filter by letting him use my compressor. go figure, huh? forget using the dishwasher please.
I say do it. But to make it better. Hide a video camera and record your wife's reaction when she comes in the kitchen and finds out. Then post it on youtube and let us all laugh our asses of at your wife beating your head in.
Ever dried an already tight pair of jeans too much? Imagine the shrinkage that heat in the dishwasher would put on that cotton gauze. That's why they specifically say don't use heat to dry or lay in the sun to dry. OTOH, it's your filter. Give it a shot.
Everyone need a daily picker upper so thanks for adding alitttle humor to my Monday.
This is second only behind putting the cat in the microwave to dry it after giving it a bath (which just the cat in a bath is itself humorous if you have ever watched someone attempt that).
