remove the three screws holding the screen in place,pull the screen slightly forward,and then up to remove. Then the two screws on the sides of the inside fairing, and two on the steel housing under the inside fairing. Pull the outer off slow, and disconect the plug on the back of the headlight. It's a very simple job. If you have any doubts, but the manual and it shows all.

I thinking about where my fuel light is.

Isn't it inside the speedo face??

If it is, just pulling the fairing is not going to get you anywhere near the inside of the speedo.

They are pretty much sealed up with a wiring plug on the back.

There's a plastic row with pullout lights that you access from behind the fairing. Also check the black connector box that has 4 black ground wires, and a few others that's resting above the stereo. If it's got crap in it, you have to clean and grease the connections. Might as well do it while you're there. Mine was corroded last week and the ground wire melted on my headlight connector because it was searching for ground.

4 things:

#1 Before doing anythng cover your front fender with a a towel or better yet a heavy blanket or comforter in case the outer fairing some how falls.

#2 Have a safe place to lay your outer fairing down on where it won't get scratched or fall. Have the space ready before you even remove one screw. Don't ask me how I know. :-}

#3 put the middle screw back in after removing the windshield while you remove the other 4 lower ones. This way the outer fairing cannot fall accidently.

#4 Check the connector before tearing into anything. Might just be a loose plug causing the lack of light.

Wouldn't this be warranty work? If it's the fuel light, that is in the speedo, so that will have to be replaced. I say take it to the dealer and let them fix it on their dime.

I don't believe bulbs are under warranty, but then again I may be wrong.

Primo's rules are great, just one more. When reasembling, do not over tighten the screws, or you'll just end up breaking the brass gromet away from it's plastic holder in the fairing.

Use the Search tool and look for "Fairing Removal". I recall seeing a nice procedure with photos. It's actually pretty easy. I removed my fairing this spring to install Hog Tune speakers.

There's good advice in this thread. Cover your fender and tank any time you work above these parts....and don't overtighten the screws that secure the fairing.
