front brake switch replacement
Has anyone done this? I haven't yet got the part, but I was wondering, will I be soldering the existing wires on to the switch, or will the switch have a pigtail that I need to solder to the wires I cut off the old switch? It's a 1993 police model so it has the older style switches.
My 1995 switch just comes with 3 pins and they need to be inserted into the plug. You need a tool that looks like a small tube to push over the old pins to "unlock" them from the connector. This is better than soldering if you ask me.
Be sure your handlebar switch housing is tight up against the master cylinder , otherwise the brake switch won't be activated when you pull the lever. A lot of people have bought switches they didn't need!

Well that would be nice if it just plugs in. It would make it alot easier. I think they changed the switches in 1996, so I might have the same style as you. I'll find out when I get the new switch. I do need a new one, I broke the other one when I was installing a new grip. I'm not sure how, I jammed a piece of cardboard in the brake lever to keep it open, but the little plunger is broken off.
Thanks.
Thanks.
